2008 Season Opener - Triple Header in the Home Paddock

Bulls Baseball is back for 2008 and so is Invisa-bull your intrepid reporter (he will show up from time to time).

The season opened with a triple header at Bulls paddock at Mitcham. The day was glorious. The sun shone and warmed the backs, hamstrings, arms and hearts of the bulls. The Bull-Bar and Bull-BBQ were in full swing to warm the veins and stomaches of the herd - ahh Palate-a-BULL indeed.

The Socia-Bulls took on the Bridgewater Bulls (aka the wily old Bulls) at 11:00am. Glen Young, in his comeback game to the Bulls, pitched for Socia-Bulls and Tredy threw for the Old Bulls. The old bulls got away to a good start knocking in 7 runs at there first at bat. The Socia-Bulls didn’t match the run production in their 1st innings. The game settled down to a very competitive game after the 1st innings with the eventual score 13-6 to the old bulls. Apart from the consistent hitting of the Bridgewaters and couple of good catches by Craig (Defenda-bull) Martin at centre were among the highlights.

The Sons of Bulls took on the West Torrens Eagles at 1:00pm. The eagles are a young, but highly talented group, guided by Davd Dunstall. Sons of Bulls were down 4-0 at the half way mark, but rallied with some good batting base running to run out winners 5-4.

The Brownhill Bulls took on the Indians in the last game. Indians are a youthful team (most haven't seen a razor yet). Martin (Bull Frogg) Foster 's umpiring and commentary of the game was a highlight. Norm (Sluga Bull) Sluga started on the mound for the Brownhill Bulls giving up two runs in the first, and conceding nothing for the next 3 innings. Jake Gibson closed out the game, with the Bulls winning 13-2.

Highlights included the fielding in general (the Fum-bull hat was passed only once; sorry Bill but you should have used the new glove) and Bruce (Texta-Bull) Winter out - hitting son Tom (Bull Bag) Winter. Bruce's base running running was also a joy to watch.

A great opening day…
